New Year's Eve

Today is New Year’s Eve...and so ends another year, another decade. A new year is ushered in. Around the world people are preparing for the festivities, the gathering of friends, out with the old and in with the new. Auld Lang Syne will be sung at midnight as across the world arms are linked, together with hearts, for a brief few minutes.

It’s a quiet night for us; hubby is rostered on for volunteer Ambulance duty. And, of course, we’re praying there are no call-outs, no accidents and no deaths.
I’ve been thinking a lot today about the past year, and like most people working out which resolutions will be easiest to keep.

I thought I’d share a few of the blessings God has given me these past twelve months.

A husband whose support never ends.
A loving family.
The time to homeschool.
Amazing friends, both online and off.
Wonderful critique partners.
My first published magazine article.
My own office (even if it is a corner of our lounge – I love it!).
Watching my son in his first ‘acting’ role.
The start of my hypnotherapy practice.

And, as with everyone’s lives, there have been trials. People we know have died, marriages have ended. One of the things I’m most grateful for is that God holds the future in his hands; we don’t know what the next year brings. Though, personally, a book contract would be nice!

So, as we usher in the New Year and say goodbye to the old one...what are some memories you’d like to share? What hopes and dreams keep you going?

  1. '09 was the year of "The House" -- after thirty years it needed a new deck, new window glass and a new bathroom. I'm looking forward to a more peaceful 2010 -- and yes, that book contract would be nice:)

  3. 2009 was a year of change for us. A time to see our son reach out into the world and find his place at College while still living at home. This year he has been offered full time employment and he is deciding whether to defer his degree for a couple of years.
My husband and I are reviewing where we are at and planning time especially for us.
2010 will be a time to expand on 2009 and yes, a book contract would be wonderful.

  4. Alice, this has been the year of the house for us too--new furnace, new well, new office. I am looking forward to enjoying them all in the coming year. Also, our son-in-law will be in officer training, so we are looking forward to our daughter living with us for three and a half months. She went to boarding school in Kenya at 13 so we consider it a great privilege to have her home, although I am sure there will be adjustments. (She hasn't been thirteen for a long time.)

  5. Well, did it again - wrote a comment before signing in and now have to type all over again! New Year resolution - sign in to blog first!
We had a very welcome thunderstorm here last night that cooled us down and so had a good sleep. With floods and bad fires in many places throughout Australia at the moment as well as so many deaths on our roads and beaches I pray a much safer 2010 to you all. Watched the news this morning of all the millions of dollars going up in smoke with all those fireworks throughout the world - and especially in Australia. With all the need around after the last year or so, it seemed somehow wrong.
My highlights last year? Being in Denver at the ACFW conference stands out but then there was the arrival of our little grandson too.
Have a wonderful year, especially those with manuscripts submitted or ones still to be finished.
    Hugs

  6. Happy New Year, Jel and Sash!

Alice and LeAnne, 2010 will be our 'year of the house' too. We have a few projects that desperately need doing, bathroom, entertainment area and carpets. Will be glad to get them done!

I agree, Mary. We sat here last night watching the fireworks on tv, wondering about the enormous cost and what it was doing to add to the greenhouse gases.

Noela, I love the Gold Coast. I was born in Brisbane and lived all over QLD, before moving to WA. It's a bit too humid over there at the moment. Which college does your son go to? My aunt teaches at Bond uni.

Btw, hubby wasn't called out in the ambulance last night. I'd say that was a fantastic start to the New Year!

  7. Happy New Year! We're also renovating this year and I hope to be more productive with my writing. My dream for 2010 is to attend my first ACFW conference :-)

  8. Hope you have a wonderful New Year too, Narelle! Being more productive was one of my resolutions, in not only writing but all areas of my life.

  9. Happy New Year to all. I can't believe how many of us are doing minor remodeling. We are repainting the bathroom walls and putting in a beautiful new floor (tile!). Remodelling is not one of the topics of my new release, Angela 1: Starting Over, but I hope the book helps pay for ours ;). I don't plan to include remodelling in either of the two sequels to the book. To learn more about the book, just click on my name and follow the link to my website. Thanks.
