My world

One of the things I enjoy most about this blog is the chance to get a peek into the world of friends from all across the globe. I love the photos and the insight into other cultures. As a reader, I love being inspired by vivid settings in stories that take me to places I've never been. And as a writer, I even enjoy all the research that goes into a story to ensure the setting comes to life for the reader. One of my favorite things to do as far as research is read travel blogs. It often gives me a fresh look into a familiar place. Or brand new insight into a place I've never visited.

Since both Narelle and LeAnne have shared this week about setting and the importance of using the five senses--and it's been something I've been thinking about lately as well--it seemed like the perfect time to continue that theme and share some photos with you from my world. Especially since I found out this past week that my publisher is going to let me set another book in Africa! So right now, I'm busy trying to implement all the things Narelle and LeAnne wrote about the importance of setting while enjoying another chance to share a bit of my world through another story.

In the meantime, here are some photos of where we live!

We live near a stunning reef along the Indian Ocean.  The day we went
snorkling on the bay side, we saw dozens of red and green starfish.

Water pools along the Indian Ocean.

Many of the locals are fisherman.
The sunsets are an incredible mass of color.

Colorful, fresh produce from the market is available year round.

Rusty boats that have seen better days sit along the edge of the bay,
completely out of the water during low tide.
Nearby, flamingos search for food in the water near the shore
that is often moving with tiny crabs.
Spending time out in the village. This time with newborn twins.

And not too far away is one of my favorite places. . .a game park.

Rhino's in motion.

Thanks for visiting a piece of my world with me!

Lisa

  1. Thanks for sharing these photos of another world (from London, certainly)! I'd love to hear more about your missionary work one day.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Sara! As for our missionary work, we are involved in church planting/discipleship training in an unreached people group and also run a non-profit to help with physical needs. That's (as Ian might say) a very little taste of what we do. :-)

Thanks for sharing these photos and giving us a little taste (very little) of your African experience. Hope you may share more in future.

    1. Thanks for dropping by, Autumn. I answered briefly about our work above. It's definitely a place God has brought us to and we will stay until he says otherwise!

  6. Thank you, Narelle! So glad you've enjoyed them. And while I love writing books set in Africa, I had so much fun with my Paris story! Now I need to go back for another visit!!

  7. I love the pictures. My husband is the photographer in our family. The picture of the market could almost have been taken here in Hong Kong, or in the Philippines, and the picture of the village of fishermen looks similar to what we've seen on visits to the Philippines.

  8. Thanks so much for the glimpse into Mozambique, Lisa. Like Narelle, I love your African books, so I'm so thrilled your publisher has okayed another one. I take lots of photographs but never seem to get them up on the web while they're fresh!

  9. Love all the pics Lisa, especially the one of the starfish. So pretty but reading a book recently, they may look pretty but in reality in marine life they are evil. The novel was Invisible by Carla Buckey. It had lots of info about marine life. Thanks for sharing your world.

    1. Wow. That is interesting, Dale. I really don't know anything about star fish to be honest. We also saw sea horses which I loved as well, but harder to get good photos under water!
