What inspires you?

I loved Paula's recent post on taking time to slow down and enjoy life, because that is what I wanted to share today. I believe that no matter who we are--writers, artists, moms, teachers, students--we need to find ways to be inspired.

As a writer, I've had to learn to write not just when the inspiration hits me, but in the midst of the constant busyness (and often chaos) of day-to-day life. I've noticed though, that when life gets too busy, pulling me in umpteen directions, that the inspiration I cling to can quickly drain away. It's a reminder to me of the importance of finding that quiet place to slow down and recharge.

Last month, after dropping off our children at school in Kenya, my husband and I were able to do just that. We were blessed to be able to celebrate our anniversary for two nights at the Maasai Mara, one of Africa's greatest wildlife reserves. I have found while living in Africa, that one of my favorite places to find that inspiration is while being surrounded by the quiet and amazing beauty of God's creation, whether it is out in my garden or off on safari.

It's finding time to slow down. Meditating on who He is. Enjoying the beauty of a simple flower, as Paula wrote about.

What about you? What do you do to recharge and find inspiration?

Below are some of the photos from our recent trip.

Enjoy!

  2. Wow, what a magnificent place to find rest. God is so clever with all the wonders of His creation.

Ann Voskamp tweeted this today which was apt in light of your post: "When the world strives --- the wise still."

    Thanks for sharing, Lisa.

  3. Love that tweak. It's often so hard to (at least for me) to "be still and know that I am God" as it says in the Psalms, but so needed for us to find that rest and peace!

  5. Amazing photos, Lisa--thanks so much. I'm looking forward right now to a quieter week after a very busy few weeks of speaking, just being with God and maybe even getting some writing done!

  7. Great photos Lisa. For me it's talking a walk near the water I find soothing.
