Happy Father’s Day

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

Along with those in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, those of us living in North America are celebrating Father’s Day this Sunday. In fact, over 70 countries are celebrating it this weekend.

But this is an international blog, and that means not everyone is. For instance, Australia and New Zealand celebrate it on the first Sunday of September. And there are other countries that celebrate it in March, May, August, November, etc.

But one thing that remains the same is the importance of Fathers. Our Heavenly Father included. So today I’m posting a prayer written by Scott McKnight, because it's always a good day to offer a prayer for fathers everywhere.

God our Father,
in Your wisdom and love You made all things.
Bless these men,
that they may be strengthened as Christian fathers.
Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.
Grant that we, their sons and daughters,
may honor them always
with a spirit of profound respect.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
