Although not the same genre, I too can testify to writing what you believe God wants you to and then waiting. For me it was thirteen years and then I had to "listen" and obey Him again. Long story and one I enjoy sharing in talks publicly and individually.Mary Hawkinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12603850711168486457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4620199782689299940.post-51415690205435061312012-08-07T05:25:36.299-07:002012-08-07T05:25:36.299-07:00Thanks for sharing your story, Marion, and thank y...Thanks for sharing your story, Marion, and thank you Mary for introducing Marion to me. We actually had contact some years ago as a result of both being published in The Upper Room, but it was just a quick exchange of emails.

Yes, Marion, I'm very aware of the different punctuation, spelling AND meaning of many words between British English and American English. I've had a few articles published on the subject. In fact I have a whole series of posts on my Website on the topic (starting here: http://www.shirleycorder.com/ViewArticle.asp?37417).

I have written for the American market for so long now that when I write emails or material for South African readers I get in a real tangle, trying to work out which spelling or punctuation is correct. So we now have American English, British English, and Shirley's English. Not to mention dozens of others of course!Shirley Corderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04429641202607657089noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4620199782689299940.post-5341006582261820902012-08-07T04:27:38.069-07:002012-08-07T04:27:38.069-07:00An amazing testimony of your journey thus far, Mar...An amazing testimony of your journey thus far, Marion!

I'd just like to say that your experience is not entirely an isolated one... I know of at least one author who felt called to write in a particular genre at a time when no US publisher was interested in it. And I'm sure she won't mind me telling this story.

This author persevered despite outside discouragement, and kept on writing. Then, when the time was right and the interest was once again there for this particular genre, she already had the story written and she become one of the authors to help revive this genre after almost 2 decades. The genre: Biblical fiction. The author: Jill Eileen Smith. And the story: Michal. And the other author who helped re-open the door for Biblical fiction: Francine Rivers, with her Lineage of Grace novellas. All published in a time when Biblical fiction was unpopular. And now, Francine and Jill have helped pave the way for others who have stories to tell, and the genre is growing stronger. Mesu Andrews is one of my favourite authors, and without the renewed interest in Biblical fiction, her stories wouldn't be around either.

So, be encouraged, and let your inner editor know that if God is calling you to write, then no current market circumstance should stop you. If He has called you to tell the story, He will be faithful to provide the means for it to be published. In His time. And you never know, you may yet be a pioneer in British Christian fiction ;-)

Bless you heaps, Marion!Ellie Whttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08393024199581905099noreply@blogger.com
